Shivin's Literacy Learning Story - 25.3.15

Learner: Shivin      Learning Coach: Tracey Dillner            Date: 25.3.15
Learning Area: Literacy
Learning Observed
During Literacy iDevelop time learners are able to select appropriate learning activities to do when they have completed their set tasks. Shivin chose to use an iPad app called Chicktionary which is a vocabulary building game. This is a favourite activity for Shivin and he is learning to manage his time on it by setting himself a 15 minute time allowance. During this session Shivin was working with Aryan on Level 39. The boys were trying to build words that use the letters R, C, G, B, N, A and I. Shivin was making words with an average of three or four letters and at times was guessing possible solutions if he couldn't see obvious combinations.
Evidence of learning

Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Shivin collaborated well with Aryan and understood the requirements of the task. To begin with he thought about which letter combinations he could identify and focused on the bonus letters to get the most possible points (Thinking and Using Language, Symbols and Text). Shivin was focused on this task and did not require any adult supervision or assistance (Managing Self).
Next Learning Steps
  • Take the time to logically analyse the letters provided to avoid having to guess random combinations.
  • Choose other activities that will help with knowledge of letter combinations and spelling rules.
